The town of Saint-Fulgence is located only a few minutes from the City of Saguenay. Punctuated by rocky capes and fertile raised beaches, this is where the river undergoes transformation and becomes a fjord, to the call of wild geese in search of salt marshes. Rich agricultural land and lush forests abound.

THE BOARDWALKS
Just outside town a short, looped path made of wood boards allows visitors to contemplate the birds, particularly the Canada goose, on the rich environment called riverwash – some individual birds stay around all summer long. Interpretative signs are posted along the way and explain the singular vegetation of the riverwash. During summer, guides are on hand to inform visitors on the various aspects of the riverwash and its feathered friends.

The interpretation centre is a care and observation facility for birds of prey and other wild birds. Its mission is to protect nature and reveal its secrets to the general public; to raise awareness regarding ecosystem biodiversity through organized activities and workshops, in line with its preservation objectives.
Across from Saint-Fulgence, fresh water from Lake Saint-Jean and salt water from the St. Lawrence River meet in the brackish marshes of the Saguenay River. This feeding area called the riverwash is a true meeting place for more than 250 wildfowl species each year.
PARC NATIONAL DES MONTS-VALIN
Overlooking the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region from its 980 metres of elevation, parc national des Monts-Valin is a major four-season outdoor centre. In summer, hiking, cottage vacationing, lake or river fishing, canoe-camping, and boating are featured. In winter, the outstanding snow cover makes the park an ideal place for snowshoeing, as well as Nordic and cross-country skiing. Take a stroll in the calm and quiet atmosphere of vallée des Fantômes (Ghost valley), or experience the bracing conditions with the mummies that inhabit pic de la Hutte. (Source: Sépaq)
If you were born under a lucky star, you may be one of the few to spot an eastern cougar. Indeed, the presence of the big cat in the monts Valin area has recently been confirmed by researchers. However, the cougar is a master at camouflage and is rarely seen.

A first on the American continent, via ferrata entails climbing an immense vertical rock wall which plunges into the Saguenay River. Other water activities at the park include rafting, sea kayaking, and a full day of sailing.
